From late December through February, the dry, dust-laden northeastern trade winds sweep across West Africa. In Greater Accra and Tema, harmattan isn't just a weather phenomenon — it is an aggressive indoor allergen and the number one killer of residential air conditioning systems.

How Harmattan Dust Silently Damages Your Home

Unlike coarse beach sand, harmattan particles are microscopic (PM2.5 and PM10). They easily bypass standard window seals and penetrate deep into your living environment:

• Choked AC Evaporator Coils: Dust forms a concrete-like sludge on wet cooling coils, blocking airflow, making compressors overheat, and driving up your ECG electricity bill by up to 35%.
• Fabric & Mattress Accumulation: Curtains, upholstered couches, and mattresses absorb kilograms of fine dust, triggering morning sneezing, asthma flare-ups, and skin irritation.
• Louvre Track & Glass Grime: Windows lose their transparency and sliding glass tracks jam with abrasive gritty residue.

The 4-Step Harmattan Detox Protocol

1. Chemical Chemical Foam Wash for AC Split Units

A simple filter rinse is not enough. The internal blower wheel and aluminum fins need pressurized chemical foaming to dislodge deeply caked dust. Doing this in January restores 100% cooling capacity and cuts energy consumption.

2. Deep Steam Extraction for Upholstery

Dry dusting sofas merely redistributes fine dust into the air. Professional steam extraction pulls out trapped particulates and kills dust mites embedded deep within fabric weaves.

3. High-Level Wall & Ceiling Sanitization

Dust adheres electrostatically to emulsion wall paint, cornice moldings, and ceiling fan blades. Using microfiber dusting poles and anti-static damp-wiping prevents dust from recirculating every time fans are turned on.

4. Window Track & Louvre Polishing

De-greasing and lubricating window tracks prevents mechanical grinding and preserves your rubber gasket seals for when the heavy rains follow later in the year.
